Each Lent, we draw ourselves more closely to God through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. In fact, St. Augustine teaches that fasting and almsgiving are the two wings of prayer, which enable it to more easily reach God. We set things aside—food for fasting, time for prayer, and money for almsgiving—depriving ourselves so that our souls crave the one thing that truly matters: our God wo loves us.
Jesus reminds us that “One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” (Mt 4:4) Today’s young people hunger for Jesus, the Word made flesh. They desire to encounter him personally and to experience a durable sense of belonging. For so many teens, the TEC community is a gateway to a more satisfying life.
Just as we depend on Christ, the TEC movement depends on you. Along with your fasting and prayers, you can help the TEC Conference this Lent by your almsgiving.
