Lent 2024: Ambassadors for Christ

Feb 26, 2024

By: Billy O'Regan (Executive Director)

On the first day of a TEC weekend in my home TEC community, you may hear people wishing each other things like, “Happy Die Day!” Joy may seem a little out of place on a day when we are meant to be examining ourselves and letting go of sin. Yet when we open ourselves to reconciliation and take the first step toward God’s amazing grace, it truly is a cause for happiness. So, too, is this season of Lent!

Brothers and sisters: We are ambassadors for Christ, as if God were appealing through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who did not know sin, so that we might become the righteousness of God in him. (2 Cor 5:20-21)

In the second reading for Ash Wednesday, St. Paul calls us to be ambassadors for Christ, and implores us to seek God’s forgiveness. The imperfect believer who is working on his or her relationship with our Father is a compelling witness. So, in the spirit of a “happy” Die Day, let us each pour ourselves once again into our relationship with our God and Redeemer.

The work of facilitating this reconciliation for young people is central to the ministry of TEC.  Please consider making a gift during this Lenten season as we try to bring countless young people and the intergenerational communities that serve them deeper into Christ’s Paschal Mystery.

May your charitable giving this Lent be an expression of your joy and thankfulness. We are filled with gratitude to be supported by so many faithful ambassadors for Christ!
