On Sunday, September 22nd, Ralph Modena presented Mary Lu Geiger of Almost Heaven TEC (Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, WV) with the Heritage Award during Mass. Mary Lu was unable to attend TEC Encounter in July to receive the award from the TEC Conference. We are grateful to Ralph and Mary Lu’s pastor, Fr. Mary Lu Geiger of Almost Heaven TEC (Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, WV) made her first TEC in 1978 and has mentored hundreds of young adults through TEC since then. She worked tirelessly to renew the local TEC movement in her diocese, which includes North Central West Virginia TEC and Wheeling TEC. On the national level, Mary Lu served as the West Virginia State Representative on the TEC Leadership Council and acted as a model on how TEC can and should work closely with the local diocesan youth and young adult ministry office. Mary Lu also served as a co-host for one of the very first Renewing the Vision workshops and continued to serve the TEC movement on the local, state, and national level by training other leaders to host regional and local workshops. In this role, she traveled frequently, but never neglected her local community.
Mary Lu has worked selflessly for the TEC program with quiet tenacity and unending support for the program. As a spiritual role model, she has touched the lives of many young adults, young couples, and families with her relentless love and desire for God to be present in their lives. Her work and dedication to TEC has been a true gift to the TEC Conference. It is our honor to present the 2019 Heritage Award to Mary Lu Geiger.
