We're all looking forward to Encounter, where the international TEC family is invited to gather to pray, play, share, and network together once again! One exciting component of Encounter is the silent auction, where attendees can bid on a number of items donated from around the country and world.
What kind of items can you expect to find at a TEC auction? The TEC family remembers some of their favorite things that they’ve won from years past:
“My most memorable auction item is a jar of dirt from the site of the first TEC. It’s a reminder of where the program started all those years ago. There was also a pillow that I didn’t win, but the joy and fun of it was to go back and forth bidding for it with a friend.” –Jerry Langworthy, Riverbend TEC
“I have a YMCA windbreaker that I have worn to Mexico, Ireland, NYC, and everywhere in between. It was a steal and has been my best find! I was also lucky enough to bid on and win a trip to stay with Dorothy Gereke. It gave me great insight into this woman of faith who helped start the TEC movement.” –Mary Kay Marzano, Milwaukee TEC
“A couple of years ago, I won a German Cookie Tin from someone who lived in Germany for a number of years. It has lots of pictures of German kings and other nobility!” –Sharrie Cinnamond, Western KY TEC
“We won a Mike Debus painting of Jesus from one of the auctions a few years ago. Amazing. We also won a trip to New Orleans! And I have not one but two quilts (made by a TEC friend) that I dearly love.” –Marie Rice, Riverbend TEC
“I won a beautiful painting of a cross that hangs above my TV in my living room. It brings back happy memories of TEC friends and reminds me to always be thankful of what and who God has brought into my life!” –Carol Jozefowicz, Kairos TEC
“One year, I won a silver plaque showing the Virgin Mary holding the Infant Jesus. Not only is it beautiful, but it was donated from Archbishop Aymond’s personal collection, so I feel like its background is extra special.” –Erica Tran, TEC New Orleans
What makes an auction item especially memorable is the story behind it! Do you have any items to donate to this year’s silent auction? Check out these suggestions that would be a hit!
- Religious items (statuettes, crosses, Bible verses on display, etc)
- Themed basket collections (drinks and snacks, games, school supplies, etc)
- Items that are special to your local TEC center (shirts, crosses, etc)
- Home décor (plaques, signs, wall decorations, etc)
- Woodwork or other homemade items and crafts
- Unique items you would like in your own home!
